The Last of the Blogs: The Rise of Short-Form Content

There I am, in bed for hours scrolling on TikTok. At first, it was a video showing the newest dance craze. Then, when I look at the clock, over an hour has passed and I am down a rabbit hole about some controversy surrounding a YouTuber I don’t even know.

 The Switch to Short Form:

Statistics from Wyzowl

Needless to say, short-form content has become pivotal to content creators as a rising trend in the consumer market. For around 60 seconds, creators must connect and resonate with audiences. Quicky, Snappy, and straight to the point. Something that Blogs and written work lacks even on it’s best day. Personally, I find short-form content like TikTok or Instagram Reels, compelling. If I dont personally resonate with one video, all it takes is a quick scroll to the next one, and so forth. This is why it feels like an endless cycle of scrolling for hours on end. Writer for Linkedin, Kate Beavis, has an interesting article on this titled, “The Short- Form Video Stats You Need To Know For 2023”. According to Beavis, 73% of consumers already prefer short form content when learning about a new product, in addition to 21% of marketers that will utilize investing in short-form video content in the year 2023. These statistics give us a bit of insight into how important these marketing tactics will continue to grow in the upcoming years.

What does this mean for Blogs?

So what does this mean for the world of bloggers like myself? Well, I don’t see why we also can’t utilize short form content to promote our writing. Writing will forever be apart of conveying thoughts into reality. However, the niche audience that writers accumulate, highlight an audience of people devoted to words. There is something about written work to me, that is so relaxing and feels like you are in control. There will always be an audience for writing, however, it seems now the authors may have to seek out their audience. Especially with an overwhelming amount of content being pushed on the daily.

What you can do:

There are simple steps you can take to help support the art of writers. First off would always be to read. Find blogs, website, genres of books that inspire and excite you. I always find that looking up fashion magazines helps to inspire my creative side while broadening my knowledge of fashion and style. One article that I read recently on Vogues blog, featuring Linda Evangelista and Marc Jacobs, has reinvigorated my love for ‘90s fashion trends. The next step would be to cross reference those interests with short form content, and look for overlap. Utilize both content creators and writers when online. Breathe life back into bloggers, while we still can.
